Christina Marks, Juris Doctor,
St. John's University

Christina and her husband, Lenny, have lived in West Islip for 20 years.  They have two children who attend school in the district: Owen (11th grade) and Avery (8th grade).  Christina has been an active PTA member for the past 12 years and has served on the Executive Board for both Bayview PTA and Beach Street Middle School PTA.  Christina has been privileged to attend countless school events through PTA, sports, and club-based activities.  Through these experiences, Christina has come to know many of the students, staff & parents in our district and businesses within the community.  Christina received the NYS PTA Honorary Life Membership Award (2020) and the Distinguished Service Award (2023) based on her commitment to the students of West Islip.

Christina attended college at SUNY New Paltz, graduating magna cum laude in 2000 with a B.A. in Sociology, concentration: Social Work. During this time, Christina participated in several internships and paid employment geared towards interacting with, facilitating, and supporting different populations of learners.  These included students with Individualized Education Plans and 504 accommodations, allowing Christina to develop an understanding of the IEP process and the needs of varied leveled learners.

After college, Christina was employed by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, assisting crime victims & witnesses with court-related and social services throughout the criminal justice process. She then decided to leave the D.A.’s office to enter law school: Christina attended St. John’s University School of Law, graduating cum laude with a Juris Doctor degree in 2005.

Christina currently works for a law firm managing all external legal audits of the firm and developing the firm’s policies & procedures, ensuring legal compliance and adherence to requirements from some of the largest banks in the U.S.

Goals include:
Prioritizing safety, including physical security and emotional well-being
Elevating the Special Education Program by increasing student educational offerings
Bringing together our community; We are all on the SAME team of wanting the best for our children and must come together to reach our goals!
